Colorado Homeschool Academic Evaluations

A Supportive Path to Compliance

Colorado homeschool law requires students in grades 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 to complete either standardized testing or a portfolio evaluation conducted by a Colorado credentialed teacher.

I offer professional homeschool academic evaluations that meet all state requirements (C.R.S. § 22-33-104.5) while honoring your family’s unique approach to learning.

This process is designed to be clear, respectful, and supportive—not stressful or performative.

Who This is For

This service is designed for:

• Colorado homeschool families in required evaluation years.
• Families who prefer portfolio review over the pressure of standardized testing.
• Parents seeking a calm, professional evaluation process that values context over raw data.
• Families who value thoughtful, whole-child learning approaches and want an evaluator who "gets it."

What the Evaluation Includes

  • A holistic review of your student’s portfolio and representative work samples.
  • Confirmation of academic progress consistent with Colorado homeschool law.
  • A signed written evaluation letter from a Colorado credentialed teacher for your records.
  • An opportunity to ask questions about your documentation in a safe, non-judgmental space.

Portfolio Guidance for Colorado Homeschool Families

Colorado law requires evidence of academic progress in reading, writing, speaking, and mathematics. Your portfolio does not need to include every assignment; representative samples that demonstrate growth are sufficient.

Evidence may include:
• Reading logs, written responses to literature or videos of your child reading.
• Writing samples (narrative, informational, or persuasive).
• Mathematics assignments and problem-solving work.
• Documentation of oral presentations, speaking activities, or community involvement.
• Additional subject work such as science or social studies that reflects your child's interests.

The goal of this evaluation is to confirm progress consistent with state law—not to assess curriculum choices or compare students to public school standards.

 Credentials and Philosophy

I am a Colorado credentialed teacher of 30 years with over 10 years of experience supporting homeschool families. As a Montessori-certified educator and the former founder of Heart Song Montessori, my work is grounded in a perspective that values development, relationship, and the unique nervous system of every child.
